We've been given good things by a good God. The nation of Israel had been too. But in Israel, and in our day, there is darkness because of rejecting God, the giver of good things, and his good things become our "god-things". Our gods of “packages, boxes, and bags”, feasts of food, picturesque family, a restful holiday season, all of them will not ultimately satisfy. We’re doomed if we stay in darkness, and in Scripture, and across the whole of human history, it has been shown that we cannot get ourselves out of it. What is it that we need?
